Jane Flowers - Stringybark Hillside 2

Oil on canvas 45 x 45 cm 

I love stringybark eucalypts, with their coarsely fibrous and convoluted black brown trunks topped with bunches of red tipped foliage in spring giving way to white flowers. I’m also fascinated by patterns trees create in the landscape, interspersing themselves at even intervals to maximize their ability to acquire light and nourishment. This is a more abstract treescape inspired by the colours of these dramatic trees, an avenue of which lines the Princes Highway in North Geelong to honour Vietnam veterans.
