On an art retreat in the East MacDonnell ranges, we were encouraged to take large sheets of paper and lumps of charcoal or graphite and make rubbings of the rocks themselves as a textual underlay for consequent art works. I was also fascinated by the natural features left by creatures under the bark of the post and rail fences around Ross River Resort where we stayed. Back home on the Bellarine I collected some similar branches from the road side.
